I never thought I would say this, but I’ve finally exhausted the majority of my Halloween paper scraps. Sadly, crafting stores in my area are closing at a rapid clip. We’ve lost The Paper Source, JoAnn’s, Beverley’s, and my long-time favorite, Creative Escapes.
Shopping online has its benefits, but I miss the pleasure of looking at paper and embellishments up close, holding them, comparing colors and features while chatting with the creative women working or shopping at the store. I feel the loss.
I’ve loved Halloween my whole life, so making cards has been a natural extension of that. These card styles lend themselves well to scraps, and they’re fun to make.

Gardening Nirvana 
We never used to mark Halloween in the UK – we celebrated Bonfire night on November 5th when I was a child. Now we seem to do both. I must admit to preferring fireworks to spooks and ghouls! I haven’t seen cards for Halloween before. Do many people in your area send them?

No! I live near Alys (with respect to Wales, at least) and this is the first I’ve ever heard of Halloween cards. She’s just overflowing with creativity!

We celebrated Halloween by dressing up and going to a few houses when I was a girl living in Ontario, Canada. Here is the US it’s mostly focused on children in costumes coming door to door for candy, school costume parades, and even something they call “Halloween Fun Night”, more carnival than anything and a home and school club fundraiser.
I’ve always loved costumes and even worked in a theater costume shop for several years after graduating with a degree in theater arts. I enjoy sewing, decorating, theatrics and crafts, so Halloween is a fun time to dive in to those interests. There are adult costume parties as well.

Thank you so much. I’ve always enjoyed writing cards and letters as well as paper crafts. My sister got me interested in card-making, so I now find any excuse to make and send them.

I can see how much fun you’ve had with these, just like every Halloween! My favourite set is the layered Spirit of Halloween card – I like the flock of bats and the slightly Art Deco feel.

They are great Alys! I especially like the last one with the full moon and then the vine in the corner. Sadly it is the same here – we do still have a craft store, but it is tiny and trying to stock a little of everything which means it has a lot of nothing! And wool shops are practically non—existent these days. Oh well, maybe the tides will turn one day and we will go back to small businesses.

Awww. Thank you. That is so nice of you. I really enjoy making and sending cards to friends, and even though Halloween is more about candy and costumes, I enjoy letting it spill over into card-making.
I think most of us enjoy receiving a card in the mail any day of the year so I persevere. xo

I love all your cards as you well know. I’m not sure I’m quite ready for the change in color themes but I love the fun of it. I’m with you in losing art supply stores. We are losing quilt store at every turn here. It’s 2 1/2 to 3 hrs drive to get to one now. Good thing I have an enormous stash already. Fabric is now going for $14.95 a yard for good quilting cotton. Insane! The world is feeling a bit unfriendly these days.

WP is giving me a hard time again. I can put a comment on one post and not another??? You know I love all your cards though I’m more a fan of the traditional color themes. It’s my age. I’m with you on the closure of craft supply stores. We have none here and of our 2 quilt shops, one has closed and one is up for sale, if they can find a buyer. We have to go 2 1/2 hours to Flagstaff or 3 hrs to Phoenix to find anything up here. :( Good thing I have an enormous stash.

Gosh, Marlene, two to three hours to a quilt store is absurd. That’s a day-long commitment. I’m sorry it has hit you as well, but it appears to be the trend. Sigh.
