Gardenia’s in a Vase on Monday

Lucky me! After another wet winter, the gardenias put out plentiful, magical, scented blooms, just waiting to be cut for a vase.

I’m joining “the Cathys” for a weekly meme encouraging bloggers to share something “In A Vase On Monday” or IAVOM. It’s a mouthful, and it’s fun.

I’ve arranged five gardenias in a glass jar, some asparagus fern, and a few swigs of purple salvia. Gardenias don’t last long in a vase, but it’s still worth bringing a few indoors. They turn brown and droop, but the intoxicating scent remains. With greenery to keep the flowers company, I can overlook the droop for that scent.

Instead of a vase, I’ve arranged my cut flowers in one of my favorite glass jars. The Quattro Stagionioma sauce is long gone, but the beautiful embossing lives on. It’s challenging to take pictures of glass, but I’m hoping you can see a bit of the pretty pattern.

For some beautiful inspiration, check out some of this week’s vases.

Cathy, the gardener who started IAVOM, shares her gorgeous roses and a history lesson from her English garden today at Rambling in the Garden.

From Cathy’s Bavarian garden, a stunning purple arrangement at Words and Herbs.

Eliza Waters shares the last of her stunning peonies, which were grown in her garden in Massachusetts, US, creating a breathtaking arrangement.

  1. I adore gardenias, from their soft white petals that turn a golden hue as they age to their intoxicating scent. They don’t grow outside here, and I’m hopeless at keeping one alive inside. I used to be able to order one at the florist’s, but now there are no florists, only grocery stores. So I will enjoy yours vicariously!
Thanks for the mention and link, btw!

  2. Lovely flowers in a handsome jar. Recently, a gardener shared some sweet potato slips, and they were in a unique old cream jar. I hope the sweet potatoes flourish, but I’m keeping the jar anyway. :-) Many years ago, I had a built-in planter next to a tub in the main bathroom. I grew gardenias in there for a couple of years. The beauty and smell were intoxicating, but the mess and insects got to me. Thank you for sharing because they are beautiful.

  3. Omgosh, I love the scent of Gardenia. Unfortunately, they don’t grow here. The glass jar is really pretty. I’ll have to have a closer look at jars in the market. Hope summer doesn’t get too hot for you!

  4. I’d have kept those beautiful jars too. I love the smell of gardenias, although my attempts to grow them in my current garden haven’t been fruitful. There was a large, well-established plant in my childhood home that bloomed reliably in a shady corner – I need to find a shady corner somewhere!

  5. How lovely to have scented flowers that go on smelling good even after they have wilted! A bit like my peonies do. And they look gorgeous with your blue salvias Alys. The glass jar really is pretty too.

Oh, and thanks for adding the link. 😃

  6. That is such a pretty jar, and definitely one to keep – no idea what Stagionioma sauce is though! I have never smelt a gardenia so don’t know what the fragrance is like, but I have been told it is glorious! Yours make a lovely statement alongside the pretty salvia
