It’s another ScrapHappy post inspired by Kate and her friend Gun.
I’ve made cards at my crafting table during the hottest part of these too-hot days. Card-making leads to scrap-making, and that’s what today’s post is all about.

I assembled twenty paper crafting kits and placed them near the children’s Little Free Library. They are always popular and fun (for me) if I’m lucky enough to be in my craft room when a young one claims one of the kits.
Using scraps passed on by my sister, I made an assortment of bookmarks for the Little Free Library.

I have a drawer full of beautiful ink, so I pulled out six to represent the rainbow.

I used stencils to add color, then stamped an image or a quote on the bookmark.

I applied ink to the last pair without using a stencil, and I like the look of the saturated inks.

My last make is a blend of scraps and upcycling. This beautiful envelope arrived with promotional material for Tommy Bahama stores.

I cut the most prominent section for the front of the card, adding a scrap of velum below. I fussy-cut the other flowers and used them to decorate the envelope. I have as much fun using new products as I do with scraps.

If you’re a scrappy maker (paper, fabric, metal, etc.), consider joining us for this enjoyable endeavor.
Thanks as always, Kate. Please follow the links below if you would like to see what the other makers are up to.

Thank you so much! About a year ago, a five-year-old made a card from one of the kits and dropped it off. I was so touched. I keep meaning to blog about that. Your comment has encouraged me to do so.

I thought of you when I was giving sewing lessons, because you do so much to spark creativity in the kids around you, not to mention that the way you use scraps gives me lots of inspiration as well. :)

They are so lovely Alys. I rarely have the patience for this kind of craft (what with being all fingers and thumbs!) but I have actually picked up some crochet again in the last few days as it has been too hot for anything else. 😃

Cathy, you cook and garden and crochet, so that sounds like plenty of crafting/hobby time. I’ve cycled through many things over the years: sewing, knitting, scrapbooking, hook-rugs, embroidery, and now card-making. It keeps things interesting. :-)

Thank you, Lynn. This recent batch disappeared quickly, perhaps the last bit of free time before the start of the school year. xo

You are one talented papercrafter! I LOVE the bookmarks, I have a collection of bookmarks I keep in a bowl near my books and I tell you if I lived near you I would rush over the the little library and grab one…but alas I probably don’t need anymore bookmarks I have like 30 or more of them – ha!
Nice work!

That is so nice of you to say, Tierney. I like the idea of a bowl for bookmarks. I have them in different places around the house (my nightstand, near the bookshelf, etc.) but it’s easy to lose track of them. A fellow blogger and librarian once wrote a creative post on the sorts of bookmarks left in returned library books. It was quite extensive.

Love the upcycling idea. Will have to look at my junk mail in a whole new way now. Bookmarks were all lovely!

Love seeing what you did. I never think of making bookmarks, but I should. Not only because of the scraps, but I’m a slow card-maker and usually only get one made when my granddaughter comes over. The bookmarks would be fun. I will have to suggest that next time she comes.

I think bookmarks with your granddaughter will be great fun. They’re practical, too. She could even make a stash to give as gifts to her family.
Thank you for your kind words, Susan.
