WordPress Housekeeping (Spring Garden Pics)

I changed the settings in my comment section today. Please let me know if it becomes cumbersome in any way.

More and more, I see “someone” or “anonymous” comments from regular readers. WordPress has settings to avoid spam, but if not logged in, it apparently allows the comment without identifying the user.

Another puzzle, as yet unresolved, showed up earlier this week. My spam folder contained several comments, all from long-time followers. I usually ignore the spam folder, assuming it’s doing its job, so it was a shock to see these lovely comments land there.

I’ve used some of the forums in the past, but without much success, or frankly, patience, trying to get through the weeds. In my world, weeds are tamed from a kneeling pad, garden fork at hand.

If you’re a WordPress user, commenting while logged in lets me know it’s you.

If you’re a friend popping in from Facebook, you can leave your name and email address (the email is never published), so I know it’s you.

And finally, as my mother used to say: “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.” Alas, that’s what the spam filter is for, yet here we are.

    • Isn’t that the oddest thing? I’m smiling at the idea of you rescuing her, but what a puzzle it is.

      Thanks for your kind workds about the garden. Those nasturtiums fill spaces quickly, and with the brightest oranges and reds. I love the leaves, too.

  6. WordPress shenanigans are partly why I can’t be bothered to post any more.

    Also, since I was somehow persuaded (by WP) to switch to Jetpack, I’m finding it somewhat bothersome to comment on blogs.

    As an example, to get the above comment published it was easier to just reply to the email alerting me to your post.

    • Lynn, I’m so glad you preserved. It’s a shame that it’s become so complicated. I’m using JetPack as well, but its been so long, I don’t quite remember why I switched and perhaps thought it was mandatory.

      I miss your clever posts, but I certainly understand the frustration. Life is hard enough. xo

  7. Hi Alys, I regularly get comments and lots of other mail in my spam folder, so I have to check daily! In fact I can have a ‘like’ notification from one person in my mail folder, and their comment in my spam. How weird is that! LOL! It gets really complicated if a blogging friend uses a different platform such as blogspot, where I have to fill in my website too if I want to comment. Still, it keeps the brain active I suppose! 🤣 Your garden is looking wonderful by the way!

    • I guess this is more common that I thought. Thanks for sharing your experiences. I’ve foundmyself avoidiing other blogging platforms for the same reason. My comments are held in moderation, I never know if they’re published and rarely get a reply. It’s a mystery.

      My garden has been soaking up the rain all weekend. Ahhhhh

  8. WordPress sometimes have a mind of its own it seems like. . I love your garden it is the perfect balance between lush, organised and wild. I would love seeing more close-ups of different areas and posts where you explain the thought behind that area.

    • Maria, thank you so much. My garden is ever-changing. Once it was full of lawn front and back, but as the droughts in California have worsened, I was able to pursuade my husband that a native garden would be as better choice. It’s much better for attracting polinaters, using less water, etc. Thank you for your interest.

  9. Good heavens, I didn’t even realize there was a spam folder. There were a couple of things in there (horrors) but they were recent comments from the last couple of days (phew). Now I will try to remember to check there. Yikes!

    • I’m so glad you checked. It’s bewildering when it’s someone you know. I have a “hold comment” feature checked if someone includes an external link. It’s suppose to discourage spam. There are times though when others want to send you to a site or blog, so I’m able to approve the comment, which is temporarily held for moderation. Simply dumping them into Spam is a whole new thing.
