Sure, sure, I know a couple of things about potting plants, but no one would ever call me an expert. I’ve had my hands in the dirt since I was two, but there is always more to learn.
So imagine my delight when Brooke Magliozzi of Wayfair got in touch and asked me to answer a few questions for a blog post on planter types. The post features about a dozen garden bloggers who describe their favorite type of planter, and offer personal tips on choosing the right planter for your home.
According to their about page:
Wayfair offers a zillion things home. With one of the world’s largest online selections of furniture, home furnishings, décor and goods, including more than seven million products from over 7,000 suppliers, Wayfair helps people find the perfect product at the right price.
The Wayfair blog features my three-tiered, DIY clay planters, a project I shared on my blog back in 2013. If you want to read how I created the “flower-tower” you can head back in time to Flower Tower in (a Few) Hours.
If you click on over to Planters You’ll Love: Planter Tips From the Experts, you’ll see my entry about half way down the page.

Your planter is such a nice idea Alys! Like the effect if the gold. I’m going back to that page to see some of the other good ideas too. 🙂 Hope to plant up my summer pots in a couple of weeks.

Thank you, Cathy. I really had fun with that project. It might be fun to do another one but with larger pots for more planting area. Stay tuned. Have fun planting your pots (I know you will!)

What a clever idea, Alys — I love it! Congratulations on having your planter featured. I suspect a lot of gardeners across the U.S. will soon be shopping for tiered pots (myself included :).

Thank you, Heidebee. It was fun making and planting the pots and fun, too having it shared by Wayfair all these years later. Do let me know if you make your own tower this summer.

I remember that lovely idea, the touch of gold is so clever! It has weathered well too. Isn’t it a wonderful feeling when someone asks you to contribute – it’s kind of a validation of all your work. I really need to adapt this idea for my tiny courtyard – where going up is necessary 🙂

It is validating somehow when someone else shares our ideas. You are so right. And yes to vertical gardening. I’ll have to find a photo of my Campbell apartment garden. I had a narrow walkway and a fence and stashed everything in pots and baskets on the walkway, around the walkway and up the fence. It was fun!

What a nice architectural idea for the planter. I like the gold. It’s also interesting that Wayfair is looking at blogs for ideas. Who knew?

How delightful for you! I consider you an expert. Someone else agrees. 🙂 I did love the triple stacked pots in gold. I loved all the pots as they all have their place in the garden. Someone must have been watching your blog to see how good you garden. 🙂 Hugs,

You are such a dear, Marlene. I had fun clicking through all the garden blogs myself. So much to read and look at, so little time. Hugs

Super cool, to have your idea recognized like that! It *is* a clever arrangement and seems so manageable. I’m going to go see if I happen to own pots that will work!

Thank you, Kerry. I hope you give it a try. I’m thinking of making a second one with larger pots for the deck this summer. Let me know if you give it a whirl.
