The lovely Cathy at Words and Herbs just celebrated a special birthday. I’ve been following her blog for several years. She posts stunning pictures of her rock garden in Bavaria, and she also shares vegan recipes. She is currently publishing a series of recipes for World Vegan Month. Cathy also creates wonderful flower arrangements every Monday year round, in a feature called In a Vase on Monday. I’m always so impressed.
When I learned it was Cathy’s 50th birthday, I asked for her address. She in turn asked for mine and before I could pop my little something in the mail, a charming box arrived at my door.
I’m in love!
She crocheted a pumpkin with soft orange and green yarn, then added a wooden stem. She even included “warts” made with straight pins for an authentic pumpkin detail.
If you’re not already following along, you can check in with Cathy here at Words and Herbs. Today she published her recipe for Vegan Chocolate Amarena Brownies. You might have to head straight to the market for all the ingredients. Yum!
Thank you, Cathy!
So lovely that you have someone to exchange vegan recipes with. I have a good German friend that is also vegan. I am not. We manage to find a way to have lunch together. Love her crocheted pumpkin.

Thank you, Marlene. Eating out is a real challenge when you are a vegan, and often even as a vegetarian. Most soups are made with chicken broth, many salad dressings have bacon or dairy and of course the bulk of most menus includes meat, fish and poultry. I’m glad the two of you find a way to work it out.
The pumpkin is a charmer for sure. It makes me smile.

I’m no longer vegetarian but I remember the struggles I have had finding something on the menu which was filling, even if it was edible.

I do love how people make you pumpkins to celebrate your somewhat odd enchantment with them. Which reminds me to ask if the pumpkins soup was tasty…… It’s a charming pumpkin and coming all the way from Bavaria makes it very special! I was musing today on how we could set up some kind of flying fox for buckets of rain water that could be sent from here to San Jose, thereby solving both our problems 🙂

I love the “flying fox” idea, Pauline. I feel the same way about distribution of wealth. I guess we’ll have to put both of those on hold for now.
I supposed it is odd that I’m enchanted with pumpkins. You can pick your friends, but you can’t pick your…strange predilections. Ha!
I hope the rain stops soon…actually I think I read somewhere today that it did. It’s about time. 🙂

I think I mentioned it in our message today – yes, it hasn’t rained at all today – yet…… In fact it has been quite shockingly warm and sunny, Siddy and I got very hot building my new shelving unit

Oh a new shelving unit. I’m excited to see it. You’re nesting…and that makes me smile.

Hi Alys! I am so glad you liked my pumpkin! 🙂 And thank you for all your kind words! I made pumpkin pie earlier this week and thought of all my American blogging friends preparing for Thanksgiving. That recipe is coming up soon too. 🙂 I hope you have recovered from the initial shock of your election. Thinking of you! xx

Cathy, the pumpkin is a treat. You are a woman of many talents.
I’m less shocked at this stage, but equally sad, disappointed and frightened for this country, and for the dark trends worldwide. Your pumpkin, and the love and care behind it, give me hope. Thank you! xo

Dear Pumpkiholic, please never attempt to recover! LOL. These intricate confections from yarn really make me wonder how their magic fingers do it. I’ve really tried to learn and it just doesn’t stick in my head past that day. I guess I best leave it to the experts. It’s really sweet and so you. I do love that you photographed in your garden too. Even the green vine is crochet with a twist! Have a lovely day ((Alys)).

[snicker] Yup, that’s me. I’ll have to start adding that as a tag to my future pumpkin posts.
I’m with you on the magic our yarn-loving friends can weave, knit or crochet. It’s extraordinary to me, too. I know how to make a daisy chain, and that is about the extent of it.
I love photographing things in my garden. It’s a wonderful back drop for pretty much everything, and the light is often better than it is indoors. Besides, who doesn’t love an excuse to be in the garden? (((Boomdee)))
