Imagine.
John Lennon’s haunting ballad is as relevant today as it was when he wrote it in 1971. He would be happy to know that musicians around the world continue to share his ideals.
If you’re a fan of Lennon’s song, I think you’ll enjoy this beautiful rendition by Playing for Change.
My wish for all of us is Lennon’s vision for the world. Peace.
Imagine
John Lennon, Plastic Ono Band
Imagine there’s no heaven
It’s easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today…
Imagine there’s no countries
It isn’t hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace…
You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will be as one
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world…
You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will live as one
Happy New Year!

I’m glad you enjoyed the Playing for Change clip. I think they’re remarkable too.
It’s late afternoon here. We’re having a nice dinner at home, then we’ll see in the new year with a sip of champagne and a slice of Panetone, one of Mike’s family traditions.
Happy New Year.xo

Thanks for letting me know, Pauline. I see it too. I disabled ratings (one of the suggestions) and they were supposedly working on this but it has gone on for weeks. Perhaps time for another WP chat. Thank you!

Isn’t it remarkable how so many musicians from all over the world can play together at the same time, via the internet? Thanks for sharing Alys.
John Lennon was a very unique soul. I mean, to write the words, “no hell below us, above us only sky”…..it’s an easy thought for some of us and yet for a good portion of the world, probably unacceptable. I think, if peace is ever to be, it might have to be in a world with no religion. In the most war torn countries, it’s the thing that divides and I see no consensus in their future. It’s unthinkable that generation after generation lives in harshness and grows up with such distain for others. Such a weight to carry through their lives. Aren’t we lucky to know the lives we do? Happy New Years Sweet cheeks! xox K

I agree with you. And yes, we are lucky to be living in a part of the world that has sorted a lot of this out.
I’m often moved to tears when I hear this song. It seems so simple, though of course it’s not.
I was listening to a clip today about gun owners thinking that putting a fingerprint recognition on a handgun somehow infringed on their rights. It’s preposterous to me that people continue to ignore the horrible gun violence statistics. One of the women I used to scrapbook with told me her 4 year old nephew shot and killed his older sister with a handgun. They were playing, and of course had no idea. That family has to live with that the rest of their lives. That is one story in a million. I just don’t get it.
Anyhoo…

oh hon, you’re perfectly right. It makes no sense. But then again, I think I’d probably disagree on many things with the same people. We are not all from the same cloth, true that. Can’t really wrap my head around their logic, could be because they aren’t using any. I’m so sorry their little boy has to live with that horror. Unimaginable.
