What did I win?

I won this breathtakingly beautiful, amazingly crafted Bavarian Knee Rug.

The pattern has two distinct sides

I got the news two weeks ago at Teddy and Tottie land.  The package arrived today, all the way from Australia.  Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh.  I ran for the camera so I could document its arrival.  A certain feline wondered if it was for him.  After whispering in his ear that I was happy to share, he climbed off the box and I whisked it inside.

Getting a package in the mail is high on my list of joyous occasions.  I like to imagine it traveling from place to place before arriving at my door.  Pretty postage, custom forms and hand-stamps add to the thrill.

2014, 05-061

While scrutinizing all the details, I had to do a double take. I thought one of the custom stamps read “Security Screamed”.  Well of course they did. I mean, who wouldn’t scream when they saw what was inside?  The blurred ink actually read “Security Screened.” Ha!

The day I read the news that I’d won, I tried hard to temper my enthusiasm. My lucky win meant a lot of sad faces in the blogging community. Further, just a few months early, I won another lovely prize from The Contented Crafter.  All this goodness after years of never winning a thing.

Thank you, Dani, from the bottom of my heart, for this lovely treasure, and for all the extra goodies you tucked inside.  I love them all!

Please check out the goings on at Teddy and Tottie where Dani blogs about crochet, vintage home decor, pets, garden and home life in south-eastern Australia. You’ll fall in love immediately.

Dani also has an Etsy shop where you can buy her beautiful crochet work for your very own. She also offers vintage treasures.

You’re Invited

This is a personal invitation to the 109 entrants who did not win the prize. Please come visit any time. I’ll fluff up the pillows and put the kettle on and you can sit with the Bavarian knee rug across your lap. Feline companionship almost 100% guaranteed.

  1. LOL, lol ! Leave it to Mouse to come announce your fabulous delivery. That must have cracked you right up. What a guy. So nonchalant too 😀 “oh hello, were you looking for the mail?”

Dani has made the most gorgeous blanket ever. Those colours are so delicious. It looks like it was almost custom made to complement your mural. It was fate that it should be yours sweetie. Of course it all looks perfectly cheery, what a great surprise. Then there’s Liz looking fabulous on alllllllll those stamps. The postal service should right a nice thank you note to WordPress 😀

I think her cards are really cute too with the pinking around the edge. Isn’t she just too, too adorable? How are we going to get our butts to that part of the world Alys? We really must go, somehow, someday. So many hugs to collect over yonder. Congratulations to you. I think it’s more fun to see you win it than if it had have been me xoxoxox love U K

    • It was pretty funny seeing him sitting on that box. He showed little interest in moving, either. Perhaps the sent of Oscar or Dani’s Slinky lingered.

Thanks for cheering me on and for all the goodwill. I was amazed at how the blanket blends so well with all my colors. Kismet. Serendipity. Love.

I really, really, really want to go to New Zealand and Australia one day. I think we can make it happen. I don’t know how my back and neck would survive nearly 20 hours of fly time, but someone, someway, yes.

  2. Shrieekkk!! I’m so glad it all arrived in one piece! Yay! You’ve got it! And the famous Mighty Mouse has given it his paw of approval. He’s sooooo cute – I just want to gently squeeze his snowy-white little body!I love this post so much, Alys. Thank-you, thank-you! I spat out some of my cup-a-soup reading this part: “I thought one of the custom stamps read “Security Screamed”. Well of course they did. I mean, who wouldn’t scream when they saw what was inside?” I can just see a big, burly airport customs security person screaming with joy over a Bavarian crochet knee rug! He, he, he! Your pictures of the knee rug are so much better than mine – so thank-you for showing it off in its best light! I hope it brings you and your feline friends many, many years of warmth! If it ever needs any running repairs perhaps you and a certain aqua-loving Canadian could jump on a plane and bring it straight to the workshop at TeddyandTottieLand! Ha! I also love your message at the bottom of your post to the commenters who did not win. I’d certainly love to take you up on your offer – and drop in to the little free library on my way to the front door – and give Mouse a big squeeze – and wave to Lindy behind the wheelbarrow – and admire your beautiful garden – all whilst singing the line: “I’ve got lots of friends in San Jose … la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la ……… xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxox

    • Dani, the rug is beautiful and while I knew that Alys won, it was fun to go through the process of opening the package with her.
I’ll see you in Cali some day, yes? 🙂

    • Well now, how is it that I’ve not replied to your gracious comment? Shame on me!!!!

Dani, I’ve read this through a few times because it makes me feel wonderful. You make me feel wonderful. Lindy Lu already gave the blanket a spin. Now were in the throes of a heat wave with triple digit misery due tomorrow. How quickly our weather changed. I can’t wait for our next Skype gab fest. Sending love and hugs.

  3. That is such a beautiful rug. But you are a most deserving winner, Alys. Your generosity to others has been rewarded! And I will take you up on your offer to wrap the rug around my knee while you make me a cup of tea — sometime when I get to California. 🙂

    • I would love to host you in California, Anne. Just say the word.

Thank you so much for your kindness. Our weather cooled down again, so I’ve already had the chance to use it. Further, it took one of the cats about three hours to find it on the back of a chair. I knew it wouldn’t be long.

  4. What a happy read this is over my morning coffee! I can attest to the warmth and beauty of Dani’s rug, being about half way through my own version thanks to her wonderful tutorial. I have a certain kitty who was most keen last night to wrap himself in it as I sat crocheting away and the cold rain fell outside……..

I think it is a wonderful thing that you have won two giveaways – your huge heart and many gifts, material and otherwise in this world of blogging, could not possibly go unnoticed!

A great, fun post and the photos are perfect! It is also good to see Mr Mouse giving his seal of approval – and the customs people are happy too – perfect!! 🙂

    • What a perfect rainy-day activity, Pauline. Orlando is a smart chap. Lindy found mine within three hours. I had a good laugh when I saw her.

I’m so glad I got a sneak peak at your crochet piece. I love the colors, too.

Thanks so much for your congratulatory words and kindnesses. (((YOU)))

Mr. Mouse is always where the action is. He is such a character.

  5. Oh Alys, what a beautiful afghan. I love the colors and the pattern. And the pretty card as well. Good hearts abound in the world. Mouse looks like he wants to peek first. Nice of him to share with you. I can see why my aunt and I have quite sending each other gifts. When it started costing $25 for $3 souvenirs, we gave it up and just sent e-mail. I have a lot of Australia souvenirs.:) That blanket would be worth the shipping cost though. I’m delighted for you!

    • Marlene, you are right. Good hearts abound. I feel it here every day. It fills my soul.

Dani spent a pretty penny on postage to send that here. I’m so grateful for that.

The blanket is gorgeous. I hope you’ll see it in person one day. 🙂

    • Dani, I love it so much. You packed and parceled it well. The box was intact and the pretty wrapper and cards inside, unharmed. I love everything about it, but mostly that it is a precious gift from you. You are a dear.

I’m glad you laughed (or spat out your soup) at the customs comment. I had a good laugh at myself too when I realized my mistake. That would have been funny to see for sure.

I’ll watch it carefully for runs, as I would like nothing further than an excuse to hop a plane to your fair land to meet you and your loving family.

How I wish world travel was cheaper and easier. I Googled the distance between us. It’s a 17 plus hour flight. Wow!!!

      Love you, Dani.
