Today, I was ready! I’ve been enjoying these beautiful tulips putting on a show and wanted to share them with you. I kept missing the chance to grab a picture of their buttery centers. The tulips start to ‘disrobe’ around mid-day, usually when I’m gone. They’re wrapped up snugly first thing in the morning and again by dusk. Aren’t they something?

Petite and purple crocus broke ground this week, blooming with sporty stripes and tailored leaves to match They’re small put powerful, and once established, appear year after year. I planted crocus in several pots and as a border under the Acer and around the steps. Next year I’ll be far more adventurous, planting in greater volume. They’re magnificent!

I’m in love with those striped purple and white crocus, stunning. You’ve made awesome photo’s for us Alys. Hey I wonder if your last picture is a pink Freesia. They are one of my favourite treats from the flower shop. I adore the yellow, very heavenly scented and the white scented spicey. I love that there’s no pressure in your garden…giggle…so funny.

Oh you’re brilliant! From the photos, yes, that is absolutely what it is. I wonder if I received them as a potted gift one year, or if the bulbs came from a mixed bag. I really don’t remember, but now I’m reaping the rewards. I have another one growing in this same pot and a third coming up beneath the potted hydrangea. Spring is springing along!
Thanks, too, for your very kind words. They do smell nice. I’ll have to look for some yellow ones. That would be a nice compliment to all the purple and pink.

I would imagine the bulbs must be teeny tiny. Really amazing that they’ll just pop up in your garden with absolutely no attention or prep. I’m sure they are really so tender. California gardening is such a different experience, thanks for sharing that. Right on, yellow would look smashing with the purples. I’m also mad for sweet peas. While not as exotic looking, they grow really well here and I LOVE the scent. Also, they go on and on all summer.

They are pretty small (marble-sized or a bit smaller).
I really must think about growing sweet peas. I remember my mom growing them once, too, on a patio. I didn’t realize they were so scented.
