Cranberry Colored Hydrangea
My ever-changing Hydrangeas are now a brilliant shade of cranberry. I love their ruddy complexion. They’ve set buds for spring, but the pom-pom like blooms linger.
It’s a challenge pulling together a flower arrangement from the garden this time of year. That said, I wanted to come up with a creative way to use what I had, including these lovely flowers.
Here’s what I did:
I removed the bloom above the last set of buds, leaving a short but sturdy stem to work with.
I filled one small jar with leftover florist’s foam. I filled a second, slightly wider jar with a handful of crystal beads. Together they create the illusion of a tall vase, even though the stem itself is less than three inches long.

Thank you, M! That would make a great variegated thread or yarn, maybe even a dress! Perhaps that’s the next wave in personalization: taking a photo and making fabric. I see duvet covers, toss pillows and summer dresses in our future.

Our hydrangeas are long gone and all I have are brown twigs… I worry that each Winter will be their last but they always seem to bounce back. I miss going outside and picking flowers to bring indoors but I suppose it makes Summer all the sweeter.

It’s amazing what comes back year after year, when they appear dead and gone all winter long. I’m glad your hydrangeas continue to make an appearance. They’re one of my favorites.

I just love Hydrangea’s, yours seem so nostalgic to me, maybe it’s the faded and soft colours. I can hardly believe you have blooms on you Bacopa, amazing. They work perfectly in your arrangement. I just re-fashioned the arrangement you gave me tonight because the greens are holding up so nicely. The Lilies were so fragrant, I just loved every bit of it. It’s now filled with spray moms and pink tulip. I enjoyed it so much, I just thought it was the nicest surprise ever. A million thank you’ s. xK

Don’t lilies smell amazing? I love that smell.
Hydrangeas make me nostalgic too. And you know what? When I visited Donna’s shop (Antique Colony) she had everything staged and displayed for Christmas, and she included a few Hydrangea blooms in her display. You would lover her display. I wish I had my camera when I was last there. I’ll take pics the next time.
