Sarah Winchester’s Garden

We toured the perplexing and historic Winchester Mystery House last week, in the heart of Silicon Valley.  I wrote about our experience here.

Before the tour, I strolled the well-groomed gardens.  Mrs. Winchester planted trees and shrubs from around the world, beautifully maintained for over a century.

I hope to go back one day and follow along with the self guided tour, listening to the recorded messages along the way.  Here is a small sample of the grounds.

If you make it to Silicon Valley, be sure to put this on your list. If you live nearby and you’ve never gone, you are in for a treat.

      I love Lilac trees!

These are Crape Myrtles, originating in China. They are popular here, and in fact we have several up and down our street.

It really isn’t scary, but fascinating. Fly to California, we’ll go together, and I’ll hold your hand the entire time.

Crape Myrtles, they’re fabulous. We’ve been to California many times and I would love to have a day together when we get back there. You’re a doll, I think that’d be fun.

Oh how exciting! Yes, yes, yes. It’s a date. I’ll take you to the Rose Gardens, too, depending on what time of year you come down. We’ll go see Donna’s wares (she just set up shop on antique row). You’ll love that too.

I can see it now, Honey we’re going to need a bigger suitcase. I see San Jose is only 56 minutes from San Francisco and we have always wanted to go there, that might really be a plan I could get Mr B on board. OMG Alys that would be so fun!

It would be great fun! San Francisco is an hour north, and Santa Cruz Beach is an hour south. If your husbands into technology, we can also tour Apple, Stanford and the Tech Museum. He likes golf: Carmel and Monterey are known for beautiful greens.

I don’t think it’d be too hard to convince Jim. He’s a good sport and seems to be happy to ‘go with the flow’ What are you getting yourself into my dear….ha, sounds too fun!

It would be great fun. Life is never too full that you can’t make room for new friends.

Now, however, I must go do boring things like pay bills, toss laundry in the dryer and (yawn) clean up my desk.

                  Catch you later.
